Mamma in Her Village

Mamma in Her Village

Text by Maristella de Panizza Lorch

In an historical novel set in Tajo, in the Central Alps, torn between its Germanic heritage and an emerging Italian influence, we follow "Mamma" from child to young teacher and wife in the years before World War I. Based on the lives of her own family, it gathers strength from Lorch's skillful intertwining of her mother's recollections and historical events during those turbulent years.

Maristella de Panizza Lorch is a native of Bolzano, Italy. She was a member of the faculty of Columbia University in Italian and Medieval- Renaissance Studies for 40 years and was Founding Director of The Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America at Columbia. She resides in New York City.
