Confronting Anti-Semitism

Confronting Anti-Semitism

Essays by Kofi A. Annan and Elie Wiesel
Introduction by Shashi Tharoor

In June 2004 the United Nations Secretariat organized the first ever UN seminar on anti-Semitism at United Nations headquarters. Among the participants were two distinguished Nobel laureates: Elie Wiesel and Kofi Annan. In this book, the reader can share their thoughts on intolerance, anti-Semitism and what can be done to end this longest surviving form of bigotry-bigotry that has brought suffering and destruction to millions of ordinary people. Their thoughtful and passionate words explore the issue and their hopes for the future. The essays are accompanied by sometimes startling images from the past and the present day illustrating the many forms anti-Semitism can take.

Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor, is the founder and president of the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity, and is widely recognized for his literary and human rights activities. He resides in New York City.

Kofi Annan of Ghana is the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations. He began his tenure in 1997, and was granted an unprecedented second term, beginning in 2002. He resides in New York City.
